Following the announcement of F1’s new 2026 regulation changes set to be implemented at the Miami Grand Prix. we asked GPblog readers for their verdict on the updated tweaks.
On Monday evening, the FIA announced a series of new changes, including a reduction in the maximum energy recharge from 8 to 7 MJ in qualifying, an increase in the peak super-clipping power to 350kW, a capping of Boost Mode, and changes to MGU-K deployment across the lap.
The hope is that the FIA have adequately addressed both concerns related to the driving spectacle and safety, with the 2026 regulations having been the subject of widespread criticism from drivers such as Max Verstappen and Lando Norris.
Williams team principal James Vowles has welcomed the latest changes, commenting on social media: “These are sensible changes and the teams, FIA and Formula 1 have done good work over the past few weeks to agree them.”
But what do the fans think? That’s the exact question we’ve put to GPblog readers.

At first glance, the immediate response to the new rules seems to be positive, with a whopping 72% of fans voting in favour of the changes after the FIA announcement on Monday evening.
One fan even commented: “Better than nothing, let's hope it helps. Thanks to Max [Verstappen], Fernando [Alonso], Lando [Norris], etc. that stood up for the sport. Keep pushing.

While another added: “With all new regs, tweaking is needed. Now let's hope that drivers and teams, that have now been consulted, will stop whining and get on with trying to exploit these regs so they can beat their rivals.

Are the Miami GP changes just a "Bandaid" over bigger issues?

In another poll later in the evening, however, opinion had shifted among readers, with 57% of voters now saying they did not like the updates headed to Miami, one reader suggested that Monday’s announcement was just a “Bandaid” over wider issues with the ruleset.
These small changes might help somewhat, but the fundamental issue of 50% electric drive power without a sufficient battery capacity is the real issue.

"This is just a Bandaid. What I don't want to see is drivers decelerating a 1/2 mile before Suzuka's 130R or Charles and Lewis doing the yo-yo pass and re-pass nonsense,” they said.
