Max Verstappen shared his expectations for the Mexican Grand Prix after qualifying fifth on Saturday.
“We’ll try to do the best we can in the race, and of course, we’ll try to move forward”

Speaking during the drivers’ parade about what result he’s aiming for in today’s race, the Dutchman said: “Let’s see. It’s not been the easiest weekend for us. So, we’ll try to do the best we can in the race, and of course, we’ll try to move forward.”
Verstappen was also asked to share a few words about his former teammate Sergio Pérez, who will return to Formula 1 next year with Cadillac and race once again in front of his home crowd after a year away from the sport.
“He’s coming back next year, so I’m very happy for Checo to be back on the grid. For now, we’ll just enjoy the moment — I’m really enjoying my time here in Mexico. It’s always incredible to see how passionate the fans are.”

Could Verstappen’s starting position actually work to his advantage?

Starting from pole in Mexico hasn’t always guaranteed success. Since the race returned to the calendar in 2015, fewer than half of the pole-sitters — just four out of nine — have managed to convert it into victory, underlining how unpredictable the start can be at the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez.
Lining up fifth on the grid, the four-time world champion faces an uphill battle, but if there’s one circuit where starting behind can sometimes play to your advantage, it’s this one.
