Max Verstappen experienced one of his most
impressive F1 races ever in 2024 when he drove from P17 to victory in the pouring rain in São Paulo. During the race itself, he could barely enjoy it. Only later, back in Monaco, did it really sink in. The spectacular rain race at Interlagos was one of the
season's highlights. Verstappen started from the back of the grid, but fought his way to victory in harsh conditions. A feat of arms, although he wasn't concerned with that at the moment.
Verstappen reviews his own masterclass in the simulator
"No, not during the race," Verstappen says in conversation with
Formula 1 Magazine when asked if he could enjoy it at the time.
"Not even because the tension in the championship was high. I couldn't afford a single misstep." The pressure on his shoulders was immense. Yet, the Dutchman performed at the highest level and delivered one of his most dominant performances. "I don't always rewatch all the races in full, but I did sit down for this one later at home in Monaco. Also because as a driver you naturally don't catch everything happening around you during the race itself."
And what does such a rewatching moment look like for the four-time world champion? With a drink and a bag of chips on the couch? "Yes, something like that. Or in the simulator, that's how I also rewatched it," concludes Verstappen.
