James Vowles is excited by the racing the new generation of Formula 1 cars can bring to the series. "Now on track, if you look at the racing, we can't really follow each other anymore. And you can see that in Qatar. In ‘26, it won't be that way around."
- James VowlesOver the course of the 2025 season, there were many races where overtaking proved to be difficult or not possible at all.
Looking ahead to the 2026 cars,
Williams team boss Vowles believes that the new regulations will bring better racing to the competition.
He told GPblog, among others, in Abu Dhabi: "I am looking forward to next year. This is not a Formula 1 line. Me personally, James Vowles, I actually think there's to be some great things in these regulations."
The Briton also mentioned the Qatar GP, the Qatar GP, where the lack of heavy braking zones made overtaking nearly impossible. "Now on track, if you look at the racing, we can't really follow each other anymore. And you can see that in Qatar."
He continued: "In ‘26, it won't be that way around. And I think the way we're going to use electrical energy will be completely different.
"Now that might stabilize in a period of time, but I think it will create interest and excitement. So I’m looking forward to that."
