The 2026 F1 grid will feature the return of as many as 22 drivers — but who will be the youngest and who the oldest?

Oldest and youngest F1 drivers on the 2026 grid

The two undisputed veterans on the 2026 grid — set to contest their 23rd and 19th Formula 1 seasons respectively — remain Fernando Alonso and Lewis Hamilton, the only two active drivers still over the age of 40.
Alonso will turn 45 on 29 July, while Hamilton is set to celebrate his 41st birthday in just over a week’s time. Third on the list is Nico Hulkenberg at 38, followed closely by Cadillac newcomers Valtteri Bottas and Sergio Perez, both returning to the grid at the age of 36.
Sixth is Carlos Sainz, who will be 32 in 2026, with Pierre Gasly, Alex Albon and Esteban Ocon all level on 30. Rounding out the top 10 is Max Verstappen, who will turn 29 on 30 September.

From the same generation are Charles Leclerc, who will turn 29 on 16 October, George Russell, who turns 28 on 15 February, as well as Lance Stroll.
Reigning world champion Lando Norris will celebrate his 27th birthday on 13 November, while his team-mate Oscar Piastri turns 25 on 6 April. Liam Lawson will be 24, with Franco Colapinto rounding out the group at 23.
At the other end of the spectrum, the youngest group features Isack Hadjar, Gabriel Bortoleto and Oliver Bearman, all aged 21, while Kimi Antonelli and rookie Arvid Lindblad are the only two drivers still under 20, at 19 and 18 respectively.
The average age of the 2026 grid will stand at 28.6, making it one of the youngest Formula 1 line-ups in the sport’s history.
