Guenther Steiner believes Mick Schumacher "has a good chance" to be a favourite for the available F1 seat at Cadillac for the 2026 season.
Earlier this week, Schumacher himself revealed that he is in talks with Cadillac to see if he can make a return to Formula 1, and according to the German, who drove for Haas in 2021 and 2022, with Steiner at the helm, the discussions are 'positive'.
The team principal of the American team that will take part in its first season in F1 in 2026, Graeme Lowdon, also revealed that Schumacher is on the list.

Mick Schumacher has been competing in the World Endurance Championship for Alpine after being Mercedes' test driver in 2024.

'Schumacher has a good chance at the Cadillac seat'

Steiner started in a conversation with Sport.de: "I think Mick has a good chance. Cadillac needs a driver with Formula 1 experience, and there aren't many drivers who have participated in Formula 1 without a seat."
According to the former Haas team boss, Schumacher gained a lot more experience after losing his seat at the American team: "When he was a test driver at Mercedes, he did not race, but he learned a lot about a large team. This knowledge, about how a successful team operates, could help at Cadillac."

'These drivers are also strong contenders to join Cadillac'

However, Steiner noted that there are potential other bidders on the horizon. The Italian said: "Sergio Perez, Valtteri Bottas, and Guanyu Zhou. They all have experience in Formula 1. Along with Mick Schumacher, they are, in my opinion, the four favourites [for the seat at Cadillac]."
Indeed, besides Schumacher, there are other drivers on the list for Cadillac. As Steiner already mentioned, Perez and Bottas are also options to return to Formula 1 with the American team. Earlier this week, there was even a rumour that Perez had already signed a contract, but GPblog understands that this is not the case at the moment.
