According to Nigel Mansell, Sergio Perez deserves another chance in Formula 1, namely at Cadillac next year. The Englishman explains that the Mexican
assisted Max Verstappen greatly in his world championship wins. Mansell hopes
that the people at Cadillac also ‘use their brains’. "Checo deserves a new opportunity," the 1992 world champion began during an interview with a betting website. "He has a lot of experience and performed well last year, helping Max to win the championship," continued the
former Formula 1 driver. The Dutchman was crowned world champion for the fourth
consecutive season in 2024 in the pinnacle of motorsport.
It wasn’t always easy as towards the end of the season it was quite challenging for Verstappen to keep Lando Norris' McLaren at bay.
How does Perez himself feel about a new adventure in Formula 1?
Perez is linked with a move to the General Motors backed team in Formula 1. Recently,
a rumor surfaced that the announcement of the
driver would follow soon, but GPblog reported that there
is not yet any talk of an imminent announcement.
However, Mansell believes that the brand-new Formula
1 constructor would do well to sign the Mexican. "Hopefully
there are smart people at Cadillac who plan their strategy well. In the
first year, you need experienced drivers who can provide feedback, so they
know what is needed to be maximally competitive. You need people at the
helm who know what they are doing, otherwise you spend a fortune without
being competitive."
Schumacher another option for Cadillac?
With the addition of an eleventh team on the grid, there is also
one more spot to fill. It is no secret that Mick Schumacher also hopes for
a spot in Formula 1.
Cadillac team boss Graeme Lowdon has already stated that
Schumacher is one of the options for the new team. In the meantime, the
German has also
provided an update on the talks being held with Cadillac.
