Formula 1 extends deal with Chinese Grand Prix

Formula 1 has extended its contract with the organisers of the Chinese Grand Prix until 2025. It means that the country will almost certainly return to the racing calendar in 2023.

The GP of China took place for the last time in 2019. Where the race could not take place last and this year due to the coronavirus crisis, it is also impossible to move the Formula One circus to China next year. However, in 2023, the circuit is scheduled to host another race.

"Our partnership with the promoter Juss Sports is incredibly strong and we look forward to continuing our long term partnership," CEO Stefano Domenicali on the official website of Formula 1 informed. "While we are all disappointed we could not include China on the 2022 calendar due to ongoing pandemic conditions, China will be restored to the calendar as soon as conditions allow and we look forward to being back with the fans as soon as we can."

The Shanghai International Circuit hosted the first race in 2004. At that time Rubens Barrichello, driving for Ferrari, took the victory. He left Jenson Button and Kimi Räikkönen behind.
