Verstappen did not surprise Stroll: ‘I assume that helped’

Lance Stroll was not surprised to see Max Verstappen stay in Formula 1. Similarly to the Dutchman, he also hopes better cars will arrive to the competition soon.
Ahead of the Dutch Grand Prix, it was announced that Verstappen will remain with Red Bull Racing until the end of the 2030 F1 campaign. The Dutchman has been frequently critical of the current generation of cars, and highlighted that he hopes the situation will be better by 2030.
Stroll was not surprised by Verstappen's contract extension despite how critical the Dutchman previously was. The Canadian said: "I assume he's making a lot of money, so I'm not surprised," he answered in response to GPblog's question, prompting laughter in the room.
He added: "But yeah, I mean, hopefully we just see the good Formula 1 cars come back soon."
Stroll is clear: the current cars are less fun

After Aston Martin's update for the Hungaroring, Honda also brought changes to its engine for Zandvoort.
Stroll also addressed whether having a better car improves how drivers feel at the moment. "Yeah, it's two separate topics. I think there's the competitiveness, which is that the athlete, driver, we're all competitive.
"Us 22 drivers are all competitive. We're all here to win. And when a car is competitive and you're up at the front, you're always enjoying it more, that's for sure. But when you're at the back, and then there's just the feeling of what it's like, I've driven a few regulations now and just comparing other regulations, back in the day, I think the cars were just more fun to drive.
"It gave more pleasure, more adrenaline more grip and all this stuff. So yeah, I think that's just a lot of us, I think just miss that sensation in the car.
"I mean, they naturally had to take off a lot of downforce to support the batteries and stuff like that. So it's a combination of everything."
