Brembo has issued a statement in response to the issues experienced by Charles Leclerc during his home Monaco Grand Prix.
The Scuderia Ferrari driver endured a difficult weekend in front of his home crowd, with Leclerc revealing he had been managing a braking issue that dates back to as far as the Canadian Grand Prix. His race ultimately came to an early end after he crashed at the final corner shortly following a restart triggered by an earlier incident involving Lance Stroll.
The Monegasque driver, known for taking responsibility when at fault, was quick to clarify that he would not accept blame for the crash, instead pointing to an ongoing braking problem that has affected him in recent races. When asked about the cause of the incident, Leclerc replied: “Brakes. It doesn’t help to have asphalt that is coming off, but the data speaks for itself.”
The eight-time race winner later reiterated that he has never been one to hide behind excuses when making mistakes, but insisted this situation was different. “I’ve always been very honest, and no matter how many mistakes I make, I would hate to look at myself in the mirror and see myself finding excuses when I do make a mistake. That’s why I’m always bluntly honest whenever I’m in front of cameras, but I’m not going to take any of it today,” he added.

Brembo responds after Leclerc’s crash

In the aftermath of the race, the Italian motorsport parts manufacturer and long-time Ferrari brake supplier responded to Leclerc’s comments, expressing surprise at his remarks.
Brembo highlighted its long-standing partnership with Ferrari before stating that it currently has no knowledge of the cause of Leclerc’s recurring issue, emphasising that a full technical analysis is required before drawing conclusions. The company also reaffirmed its commitment to delivering reliable, innovative braking solutions in Formula 1.
“Brembo Group is really surprised by the statements made by Charles Leclerc after F1’s Monaco Grand Prix. The partnership between Brembo and Scuderia Ferrari has continued for more than 50 years and also extends to other brands within the Group, including AP Racing clutches and Ohlins dampers, confirming the strength and breadth of this long-standing collaboration.”

“At present, the company does not know the causes of the issues experienced by Charles Leclerc and therefore considers it premature to draw definitive technical conclusions before the available data has been analysed. In cases such as this, it is necessary to examine the telemetry data together with the team’s engineers in order to accurately determine the origin of the incident.”
“Brembo is a benchmark in F1 and is present on every car on the grid through its braking technologies. Over the years, F1 teams have continued to choose Brembo solutions, recognising their reliability, innovation and world-class performance. The group will continue to invest in innovation, reliability and performance, while continuing its collaboration with Scuderia Ferrari and all other F1 teams.”
While Leclerc’s race ended in an unsavoury DNF, teammate Lewis Hamilton continued his impressive streak, finishing on the podium behind eventual race winner Kimi Antonelli.
