Ferrari team boss Vasseur sends clear message to Tifosi ahead of Madrid race

Speaking after the chequered flag, the French team boss reflected on a weekend where Ferrari had hoped to deliver a standout result in front of their passionate home crowd, Lewis Hamilton's sixth place was all they could achieve, despite tens of thousands of fans who packed the grandstands.

Hamilton was left calling for 'rules of engagement' to prevent him and teammate Charles Leclerc clashing in what was an embarrassing first-lap near coming.

Throughout the build-up to the weekend, Vasseur had maintained a calm exterior, repeatedly telling the media that Monza represented just another round of the Formula 1 world championship. In the aftermath of the Grand Prix, however, he admitted that keeping emotions separate from reality is impossible in front of the Italian crowd.

The atmosphere in the Temple of Speed was electric all weekend long, with the iconic sea of red cheering Ferrari on from Friday practice through to Sunday's race.

Vasseur made sure to highlight the loyalty of the Tifosi, expressing regret that the team could not reward their unconditional support with the ultimate prize on home soil.

But ultimately his team was upstaged by Mercedes' young Italian driver, Kimi Antonelli, who won over the home fans with a hugely impressive drive.

With preparations already underway for the first race at the new Madrid circuit, Vasseur concluded his debrief with a defiant pledge that Ferrari will bounce back immediately at the next round on the calendar.

"Be sure that we'll come back next week much stronger," Vasseur concluded firmly.
