F1 Full Results | Lewis Hamilton on top at Hungarian Grand Prix FP2

The seven-time world champion's lap time of 1:18.729 just edged out Leclerc in Budapest to bring the first day of track action at the Hungaroring to an end.

Gusty conditions saw a tricky start for many drivers in FP2, with Oscar Piastri going wide at Turn 11, while Leclerc suffered a big lock up at Turn 1 with just 10 minutes gone. It was his Ferrari teammate Hamilton that took the lead early on, with Max Verstappen the next non-Ferrari driver in P3, over half a second down.

Once onto the soft tyres approaching the halfway point, Verstappen and Lando Norris had jumped to the top of the timings ahead of Hamilton, just prior to the session being halted by a Red Flag. Alpine's Franco Colapinto lost the rear at the final corner, spinning out and striking the barriers.

With 25 minutes to go, the session was back underway, allowing the Ferraris to get onto the soft tyres and respond to Norris and Verstappen. And respond they did - Leclerc retook P1 from Norris by three tenths with his 1:18.877, before Hamilton went a tenth and a half quicker still with his 1:18.729 with around 15 minutes to go.

As for Mercedes, the Silver Arrows struggled in Friday's final practice session, with George Russell finishing nearly a second down on Hamilton's fastest time, while Kimi Antonelli frequently struggled to get a flying lap done.

The Italian's first flyer on softs was interrupted by Colapinto's crash, before he was later seen sliding at the Turn 6 and 7 chicane, and then suffered a big lock up later on at Turn 2. In the end, Russell finished P5, while his teenage teammate, F1's championship leader, was down in P13.
