Mercedes 'really thankful' to Russell: 'We've been able finally to identify the solution'

Yesterday, Russell confirmed that the issue has been resolved after the team identified the root cause of the problem following the Belgian Grand Prix. According to the Briton, the setback was linked to incorrect calibration values rather than any hardware fault, with the power unit's deployment not operating optimally. After recalibrating the system, Mercedes expects the power unit to perform at its full potential.

"The deployment was not quite deploying optimally across the map. And we saw this with Piastri as well, had a similar issue. So that was sort of one of my problems, but then on top of we had something separate, it was all linked to the same calibration being not quite right," he said.

Speaking during the team principals' press conference, Resta praised Russell for challenging the team and helping draw attention to the areas that required further investigation. He said the Briton played an important role in understanding the issue and highlighting it to the engineers, allowing Mercedes to focus its efforts in the right direction.

Resta added that the team has now identified the solution and put a fix in place for this weekend, thanking Russell for his contribution throughout the process. He also said the driver was pleased that Mercedes managed to get to the bottom of the problem and resolve it, describing the outcome as the result of strong teamwork despite the challenges posed by the new regulations and the many things the team is still learning.
