Verstappen hears from stewards after rule breach in Hungarian GP FP1

Both drivers were investigated for an alleged breach of Appendix L, Chapter IV, Article 2(e) of the International Sporting Code following an incident with Sainz during FP1. Verstappen was forced to move off the racing line after encountering the Williams driver before slowing significantly at Turn 12. After reviewing the incident, however, the stewards opted to take no further action.

"On the approach to Turn 12, Car 3 had to move off the racing line to avoid Car 55, which had slowed unexpectedly on the racing line. The driver of Car 3 then slowed significantly at Turn 12 and gesticulated to the driver of Car 55 to mark his frustration that he had been impeded by Car 55. The driver of Car 55 then overtook Car 3," the FIA document reads.

As for Sainz, the stewards ruled that the Spaniard impeded Verstappen after braking on the racing line while preparing for a push lap. A radio issue meant he did not hear repeated warnings from his engineer that the Red Bull driver was approaching, but the officials concluded he should not have been warming his brakes on the racing line without confirmation that the track behind was clear. As the incident occurred during Free Practice and posed no danger, Sainz received a warning.
