Although talks are still ongoing, it is becoming increasingly likely that Franco Colapinto will remain with Alpine for the 2026 season. GPblog has learned that the French team will announce its driver line-up for next year shortly.
Pierre Gasly extended his contract with Alpine in September, but who would become the Frenchman's teammate remained uncertain. Paul Aron, Jack Doohan, and Franco Colapinto were the three candidates, as the team itself reported.
The latter stepped in earlier this season at Alpine as a replacement for Doohan. Colapinto’s season has had its share of low points, but recent weeks have shown a clear upward trend. Especially in qualifying, the Argentine has regularly managed to outpace his teammate.

Apparently, this has sufficiently convinced Alpine to give Colapinto another chance in 2026. Moreover, continuing with the youngster makes sense for the sake of continuity and stability within the team.

A swift announcement from Alpine

GPblog understands that an announcement from Alpine is expected over the next month. It might even take place around the Brazilian Grand Prix, which will be held in a week and a half.
In the absence of an Argentine Grand Prix on the F1 calendar, Brazil is the most logical place from a PR perspective to announce publicly that Colapinto will stay with the team. In any case, the driver will be cheered on at Interlagos by many passionate fans from Argentina.
