The Pirelli Pole Position Award already officially goes to Max Verstappen, because with nine poles the Dutchman cannot be beaten. Formula 1 however has another award, the F1 Crypto.com Overtake Award. The battle for this award is slightly more exciting.

The prize is awarded to the driver with the most overtaking actions in the 2021 season. The battle for this award is exciting, as the drivers are close together. It is also one of the few awards where Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton are not competing for the title.

Vettel and Alonso

Four-time world champion Sebastian Vettel and two-time world champion Fernando Alonso are currently competing for the award. Vettel is on top with 102 overtakes in total and Alonso is right behind the German with 100 overtaking manoeuvres. Vettel drove in Austin from the back of the grid to P10 making the most overtakes of this race.

It is not very surprising that the competitors for the world title are not on top of the list, because there is not much overtaking to be done when you are driving at the front of the field. Sergio Perez does manage to get into the top eight for now, with 90 points he is in fifth place. He has the same amount of points as Lance Stroll. Carlos Sainz also does good business with a third place, five points behind Alonso's P2. The battle for the Overtake Award will most likely continue until the final race in Abu Dhabi.
