Bernie Ecclestone was the big man behind Formula 1's commercial growth for years, but has been out of Formula 1 since January 2017. Liberty Media took over four years ago, of which Greg Maffei is quite proud.

The president and chief executive officer of the company saw that Ecclestone worked hard for years to put Formula 1 on the map. Although he succeeded quite well, Maffei argues that his predecessor did not exactly have a vision for the future. "Bernie Ecclestone built the product and deserves incredible credit. But there was no long-term vision," he states to Formul1.de.

Maffei saw the relationship between Formula One and the teams come under pressure, increasing internal tension. "That has totally changed," judges Maffei, who saw Liberty having to fight a lot of criticism. "Stupid Americans, what do they know about sport?"

A battle between Red Bull and Mercedes

Red Bull and Mercedes have been competitive with each other again this season for years. Where Lewis Hamilton's team had by far the best car for years, Verstappen competed excellently in the first four races. The Dutchman is currently behind in the world championship.
