The Azerbaijan Grand Prix will remain on the racing calendar in 2022. This is confirmed by Azad Rahimov, the Minister of Sports, in conversation with MotorLat. Moreover, Rahimov expects that the race will also start in 2021.
Last year the Formula 1 organisation had to cancel several races due to the coronavirus crisis. The Azerbaijan circuit was one of them, which made the organisation decide to extend the contract for one year. As a result, the drivers will also be racing in the country in 2022.
In addition, there were concerns about this year's race. "I know that there is a problem with the current Covid situation and that the British government has raised the state of alert in Turkey. It makes sense that this could jeopardize the race, as most of the teams will have to travel or come from the UK," Rahimov stated in conversation with the medium.

No fans at Azerbaijan GP

However, the minister is counting on the race going ahead, even if it has to be without fans. "At the moment it has been confirmed that there will be absolutely no spectators. There will only be people in the organization or as special guests. We have to give them a suitable place, especially if it is the president."
