Just like last week in Portimao, Max Verstappen finished in second place. The Dutchman started the race from P2 and seemed well on his way to his second victory of the season, but Lewis Hamilton and Mercedes put a stop to that. At Honda, they regret that Verstappen was not on the top step of the podium on Sunday.

"It was a slightly frustrating result after he took over the lead after a great start. Hamilton followed a different strategy and overtook Max in the closing stages. We have to accept that he and Mercedes had an edge in terms of performance and teamwork today," echoes Toyoharu Tanabe.

In Honda's press release, the top man also discusses Sergio Perez's afternoon. "After a difficult day yesterday, Sergio drove a strong race. He fought his way through traffic and finished fifth." Behind the men on the podium, Charles Leclerc's strong performance on behalf of Ferrari briefly prevented Perez from crossing the finish flag in fourth.

AlphaTauri disappointing

At AlphaTauri they had hoped for more in Barcelona after a disappointing Portuguese Grand Prix, but it was trouble again for the Faenza-based team. " Pierre Gasly 's race was affected by a five-second penalty for not lining up correctly on the grid, but he didn't give up and fought his way back up to tenth place, gaining a precious point for the team. Yuki Tsunoda's afternoon ended prematurely with a fuel pressure problem, which we will now investigate with the team. Overall it was a tough weekend for him," Tanabe said.
