Daniel Ricciardo has promised a "funky" and "artistic" helmet design in time for the 2019 season, as he prepares for his debut season at Renault.

Ricciardo announced last summer that he would be moving from Red Bull - ending his long spell there - and would be joining Renault. This means loads of things for the Aussie, but perhaps most importantly for him, he gets to design his own helmet.

In the pre-season tests in Barcelona, Ricciardo drove with a multi-coloured helmet design that had "test" written across it. But the Renault driver has promised to deliver a better-looking helmet for the Australian Grand Prix in two weeks time.

"This helmet has got a bit of coverage, so this has been a 'test' concept if you want to call it (that)," the Aussie told Motorsport.com. "But I've been working with an Australian artist, and he has been working on it for quite a few months.

"It will come out in Melbourne, but it is certainly going to be different. It is not going to be traditional and typical with a halo and lines that mean nothing. I am trying to get away from the typical helmet these days, so it should be funky. It is kind of artistic in a modern way."

Ricciardo's first race for Renault is of course in his home country of Australia.
