Gresini Racing rider Alex Marquez has won the MotoGP Spanish Grand Prix for the second year in a row. His brother, meanwhile, had a difficult Sunday after crashing out on the second lap. As it happened
Marc Marquez got off to a great start and led the race unchallenged into the first corner. Bezzecchi also had a strong start and began putting the defending world champion under pressure in the following turns. However, the championship leader could not extend his 121-lap streak of leading consecutive Grand Prix laps, after losing second place to Alex Marquez in the final sector.
The younger Marquez did not waste time taking the lead either, making a move on his brother at Turn 6 on the second lap. Marc Marquez's race ended on the same lap, as the Spaniard crashed out at Turn 11, complicating his title chances. He is now 44 points behind Bezzecchi.
Fabio Di Giannantonio was once again in fine form, and after overtaking
Jorge Martin, the VR46 Ducati rider set his sights on Bezzecchi, but despite strong pace, he never got within half a second.
The Ducati factory team's day went from bad to worse after Francesco Bagnaia suffered a technical failure and was forced to retire on Lap 13 as well. It has now been nine races without a Ducati factory bike finishing on a Grand Prix podium.
The gaps established over the next few laps did not change, Alex Marquez even had time to greet his fans on the final lap. Bezzecchi finished second ahead of Di Giannantonio. After Martin crossed the finish line in fourth place, Bezzecchi now leads the standings by 11 points over his teammate.
The best Honda rider was Johann Zarco, who finished in seventh place. Enea Bastianini was the leading KTM rider in eighth. Fabio Quartararo managed to score points for Yamaha after finishing in 14th.
