Aurelia Nobels was once part of the Ferrari Driver Academy during her time in the F1 Academy. However, she is now seeking her own pathway to F1 without any academy backing. Nobels is now racing in
GB3, after singing up for the championship at the 11th hour. And she certinaly faces an up hill test, having had limited testing and that she does not know the UK tracks. Nevertheless, she still has a positive outlook on the season ahead.
Speaking to GPblog, Nobels said, "I want to be in the top 10 and score some good points, but I think we'll take it one race at a time and work from there. As I said, it's my first weekend in this car. Just working really hard with the team to show my real potential."
The end of a partnership
Nobels is now with Hillspeed, but before she left F1 Academy, she was a Ferrari-backed driver. On the decision to end their partnership, she said, "I was with Ferrari for three years, and after these two years in F1 Academy, as a team with my family and with them, we thought it was better to stop because we're turning the page from F1 Academy and from F4."
"Also, with some new sponsors, I think it was better to continue my journey without an academy for now. But I'm super grateful for them. I mean, I've learned so much during these three years. But yeah, I'm happy with the decision, and now I'm working hard with the Hill Speed team."
Despite not being connected to an F1 team, Nobels still dreams of making it to F1.
"My goal is to get to F1 and be the first woman, and open doors for the young ones. I think it's an amazing chance that [Doriane Pin] had with Mercedes to test drive a Formula 1 car. I think it's a great opportunity to see that they're really pushing for women in motorsport. I'm just super happy to see that.""When I started in karting, I was usually the only girl racing against the boys. Now, not only as a driver, but as a mechanic, engineer, or even as a team boss or team manager. It's increasing a lot more. You see a lot more female fans in the paddock, and in all areas it's increasing. So it's really, really good to see more and more girls getting into motorsport and the number increasing."
