More F1 stars head to the Nurburgring: Russell and Antonelli also set to test

This Thursday, GPblog was the first to report that Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri will conduct a test with McLaren in April at the iconic track in the German Eifel. However, McLaren is not the only team that will be active; Mercedes will also be there then, as GPblog previously reported. It can now also be revealed which drivers from the German squad will do the test: George Russell and Kimi Antonelli.

In recent months, there has been a lot of interest in the Nürburgring after Max Verstappen raced there in a GT car. On Thursday, the Dutchman announced he will take part in the 24 Hours Nurburgring Qualifiers. Aston Martin driver Lance Stroll was also present at the German circuit last week in a GT car. Verstappen and Stroll drove on the Nordschleife, but like the McLaren drivers, Russell and Antonelli will stick to the so-called Grand Prix circuit of the Nurburgring.

The test will take place this month, in the week when the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix was originally supposed to be held. That event, along with the race in Bahrain, was canceled due to the war in the Middle East. The season will continue in May with the Miami GP.

Norris, Piastri, and now also Russell and Antonelli can log mileage with their F1 cars before then.

Bad news for fans: the test is behind closed doors and therefore not open to the public.
