Formula 1 returns to the Nurburgring following Verstappen's praise

Pirelli is holding a tyre test at the Nurburgring in the week when the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix was originally scheduled. Several teams are taking part, including Mercedes. This gives them the chance to rack up extra mileage during a stretch of more than a month without a Grand Prix on the calendar.

The Nurburgring is very much in the spotlight thanks to Max Verstappen. The Dutchman from Red Bull Racing is competing in the Nurburgring 24 Hours this season and drove in the Nurburgring Langstrecken-Serie at the Eifel circuit just over a week ago. That took place on the long Nordschleife, but the F1 test will not be held there. Pirelli is using the circuit’s Grand Prix layout.

Verstappen is hugely enthusiastic about racing at the Nurburgring, and he has often said that it is a fantastic circuit. Despite the praise, Red Bull Racing will not be in action during this test in Germany.

Verstappen would not have to wait for long to race on his beloved track again. At the end of that very week in Germany, he could potentially take part in the 24h Nurburgring Qualifiers. After all, Verstappen also has room in his schedule following the cancellation of the Grand Prix in Jeddah.

Verstappen has not yet fully decided whether he will step into his Mercedes GT car then. The fact is that, for now, only Lucas Auer has been announced to race that day on the German circuit.
