Colton Herta is set to make the switch from IndyCar to Formula 2 next season; however, the team that the American will compete for is not officially known. GPblog has learned that a team from New Zealand currently has the best credentials to contract the test driver of the new Cadillac Formula 1 team.

Herta has long been linked with a move to Formula 1 and was even on the Cadillac team shortlist. However, the IndyCar race winner will not make the step up in 2026 as he does not hold the required number of super license points.

Herta wants to gain experience in Europe

A switch to F2 can give the 25-year-old, in the long run, enough points to still make the move to Formula 1. However, that is certainly not the only reason to choose F2. In Europe, Herta can get used to the European way of racing and also master the management of the Pirelli tyres.
Rumour has it that there were many teams interested in Herta, but almost most teams have their '26 line-up - without it being announced - already sorted. GPblog has learned from several sources that Rodin Motorsports is on pole to attract Herta.

Rodin has McLaren talent Alex Dunne

Rodin is one of the current top teams in Formula 2. At the moment, the team has Alex Dunne in one of the cars; the Irish driver who is participating in FP1 on behalf of McLaren this Friday. Dunne, in turn, is attracting interest from various Formula 1 teams with the possibility of becoming a test and/or reserve driver there. Amaury Cordeel is the other driver who competes for the Rodin team this year.
