After Lando Norris' nightmare DNF at the Dutch Grand Prix, former driver Juan Pablo Montoya believes the Briton needs to be "more aggressive" in the title battle. Lando Norris was running in second place behind his teammate
Oscar Piastri in the Netherlands,
but a car failure prevented him from finishing the race. That means that instead of a 16-point gap, the Australian now leads Norris by 34 points in the drivers' standings with nine rounds to go.
Former
F1 driver Juan Pablo Montoya said it's "tough" to end a Sunday that way on
F1 TV's Weekend Warm-Up.
"He's doing everything he can. He's trying to maximize the points, trying to close that gap, and it's put in a position where he needs to win about seven out of the next nine races if he wants to really win the championship because they always finish P1 and P2, unless something major happens," the Colombian began.
"I think Lando, if in any position Oscar is ahead, he needs to step up with the level of aggression and really go for moves to put Oscar in a difficult situation," he suggested.
"From the Oscar side, I think Oscar is in a comfortable situation, but he should not change his approach. I think if he changes his approach, he's going to become vulnerable to Lando," the former F1 driver added.
Piastri doesn't expect Norris to change approach
Talking to GPblog in Monza, the championship leader said he doesn’t believe there will be a change in how the two go racing against each other.
"I think the amount of risk we're taking will be the same. We're both trying to drive as fast as we can. It's not like we've been holding anything back from that side of things. So I don't think we're getting anything to change," the Australian shared his thoughts.
