Major update on Leclerc's availability ahead of the Spanish GP

The news ends any uncertainty surrounding Leclerc after his heavy crash during the Italian Grand Prix at Monza. The Monegasque lost control of his Ferrari at the Parabolica and hit the tyre barriers at high speed. He was able to climb out of the car unaided and was immediately assessed by the medical team. Initial examinations at the medical centre revealed no injuries.

However, it remained unclear whether Leclerc would be able to race in Madrid one week later. Further medical checks were scheduled because of the severity of the impact. GPblog reported earlier on Monday that Leclerc needed to undergo those examinations before he could be declared fit for the new Spanish Grand Prix.

That uncertainty has now been removed: Leclerc has been cleared to compete in Madrid this weekend. It is welcome news for Ferrari, which must quickly move on from a disappointing home race at Monza. The first Grand Prix at the new Madring circuit begins on Friday, 11 September, with the race taking place on Sunday, 13 September.
