Williams has been hit with a formal warning and a fine after an incident involving Alex Albon and Arvid Lindblad occurred during qualifying for the Monaco Grand Prix. After being
summoned to the stewards, Williams has been given a formal warning and will have to pay a €5,000 fine. This is due to Albon's car blocking Lindblad from entering his pit stop.
Not only was the British-Thai driver involved, but Carlos Sainz was as well. As Sainz was already at the Williams garage, Albon had to drive around him. This not only blocked Lindblad but also put him in a position where he narrowly missed a mechanic working on Albon's car.
In the FIA document, the reason is cited as a breach of Article B4.1.1 of the FIA
F1 Regulations and Article 12.2.1.h of the FIA International Sporting Code.
Williams receive fine and warning
It explains, "The Stewards heard from the driver of Car 23 (Alexander Albon), the driver of Car 41 (Arvid Lindblad), team representatives, the FIA Single Seater Department Sporting Director and reviewed positioning/marshalling system data, video, team radio and incar video evidence. Car 55 was already stopped in front of the Williams Team garage area as Car 23 approached."
"Car 23 drove around Car 55 and, in doing so, prevented, for a short time, Car 41 from entering its pit stop position. In doing so, Car 41 narrowly missed running over the foot of one of the mechanics attending to Car 23. The Williams Team admitted that it could have handled the situation differently, and hence a formal warning is issued for that, and more importantly, a fine is imposed for the potential safety issue."
"Competitors are reminded that they have the right to appeal certain decisions of the Stewards, in accordance with Article 15 of the FIA International Sporting Code and Chapter 5 of the FIA Judicial and Disciplinary Rules, within the applicable time limits. Decisions of the Stewards are taken independently of the FIA and are based solely on the relevant regulations, guidelines and evidence presented."
Thus, after reviewing the incident, Williams was handed a formal warning. The team was also handed a €5,000 fine due to "a breach of Article 12.2.1.h of the FIA International Sporting Code."
Hulkenburg also receives warning
Another driver who was previously summoned to the stewards has also recieved a warning. Nico Hulkenberg was noted for driving slowly in the tunnel. After reviewing the data, the stewards have handed him a warning for breaching Article 12.2.1.i of the International Sporting Code.
"The Stewards heard from the driver and team representative of Car 27 (Nico Hulkenberg), the team representative of Car 16 (Charles Leclerc) and reviewed positioning/marshalling system data, video, timing, telemetry, team radio and in-car video evidence. Car 16 was on a prep lap, and Car 27 was on a cool-down lap; therefore, the two cars were on different speed strategies. Car 27 was advised by the team that it was “all clear behind”, and this was not correct; accordingly, a warning is imposed on the team. Competitors are reminded that they have the right to appeal certain decisions of the Stewards, in accordance with Article 15 of the FIA International Sporting Code and Chapter 5 of the FIA Judicial and Disciplinary Rules, within the applicable time limits. Decisions of the Stewards are taken independently of the FIA and are based solely on the relevant regulations, guidelines and evidence presented."
