According to reports, Lewis Hamilton's contract involves a clause that would allow the Briton to extend his contract through the 2028 season. Hamilton joined
Ferrari ahead of the 2025 season, signing a multi-year deal. The exact length of the contract was not revealed, but it was initially said to run until the end of 2026, with an option in place for Hamilton for the 2027 campaign as well.
Now, German news site Bild reports that Hamilton's contract runs through 2027, with the option in place for 2028. The decision to active the clause is also entirely in the seven-time world champion's hands. That could leave the Scuderia in a difficult position should the team want to make changes earlier.

'Hamilton's hefty salary in 2025'
The German newspaper also reports that Hamilton earned around €100 million (£87 million) in 2025, of which €55 million (£48 million) was his Ferrari salary.
The British driver had a largely disappointing debut year with the Scuderia. Despite claiming the team's first Sprint victory at the Chinese Grand Prix, he failed to score a Grand Prix podium for the first time in his career.
Hamilton eventually finished sixth in the drivers' standings, 86 points behind his teammate Charles Leclerc.
Hamilton not optimistic about 2026 regulations
Coming off his worst season, the Briton was not overly positive about the upcoming regulation change.
He commented: "I think it’s really, really hard to predict what it’s going to be like. I don’t want to dog it, I don’t want to say too many negative things. "It feels so much different, I’m not sure you’re going to like it, but maybe I’ll be surprised and maybe it’ll be amazing. Maybe overtaking will be incredible. Maybe it’ll be easier to overtake. I don’t know."
