Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff has hit out at the FIA and the Formula One for their "erratic" decision-making, as the Austrian argues that the F1 exaggerate the meaning of one less exciting race.
This season's first race in Melbourne proved to be a very boring one. Sure, Bottas slammed his Mercedes into the wall on Saturday and both Haas cars dramatically retired from the race on Sunday, but there was barely any overtaking going on.
The media, the drivers and the fans criticized the F1 for how boring the sport had become. The two races after proved to be very entertaining though, with plenty of drama and overtaking to be had in both Bahrain and in Shanghai. Wolff says that this exposes the nature of the bosses of F1, who worry too much if one race doesn't deliver the way it should.
“It shows that we are a little bit erratic with our decisions, and one race makes people try to do things that maybe are sometimes not necessary,” he told Motorsport.com
"That's the way Formula One had always been.
"You have to accept it.
"Just like in football, there are bad games and better games."
A big reason the Formula One is being regarded as boring and predictable might be the dominance by Wolff's team Mercedes over the last four years. This year, that hasn't been the case, as they've won none of the first three races. This is the first time in the hybrid-era that Mercedes has gone that long without winning, which underlines the struggles the team currently is having.
“I wish we were back in the past and had that situation...” Wolff joked.
