Jos Verstappen has conceded that his son Max needs to calm down after a series of poor decisions during race weekends have left him in the firing line in the media. The most recent incident with Sebastian Vettel during the Chinese Grand Prix the clearest mistake of them all.
He has taken to social media to defend his son resolutely in the past but Jos Verstappen has admitted that it is his son Max Verstappen who is in need of a rethink.
The Red Bull driver made contact with Vettel during the latter stages of the Chinese Grand Prix in a move that effectively ruined both drivers races.
"The overtake on Vettel really wasn’t on. It wasn’t possible. It was an error of judgement," he told Ziggo Sport's Peptalk show.
"In some circumstances Max just has to think more. I don’t want him to change his driving style. He passed two people at the start. He did that perfectly. That’s what we all want to see.

“But we don’t want to see these kinds of actions. He needs to have it under control. He needs to think."
Currently sat in seventh in the driver standings, Max Verstappen has fallen behind Fernando Alonso in the championship having lost further points in Shanghai.
