Colton Herta will return to driving for Cadillac during FP1 at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix. With this outing, he could secure his final FIA Super Licence point at the Interlagos circuit.
Ahead of the Mexico City Grand Prix, Cadillac was confident that, based on the team's calculations, Herta would secure his 40th point and, with it, his FIA Super Licence if he completed the necessary mileage at the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez. However, it turned out that those calculations were incorrect due to an error in the standings on the IndyCar website. As a result, Herta only scored his 39th point in Mexico City. After GPblog asked the series which information was correct, IndyCar told this website that the error had been corrected.

Herta set for another FP1 outing
Now, Herta needs to complete the required 100 kilometres in São Paulo without any incidents. With that final point, he will secure his FIA Super Licence. After driving Valtteri Bottas' car in Mexico City, he will take over Sergio Perez's seat on this occasion.

The American said: "I’m really looking forward to getting back behind the wheel of the MAC-26 for another FP1 session. Interlagos is such an iconic, historic track, and driving an F1 car around there is going to be an awesome experience. Every time I’ve stepped into the car this year, from Barcelona to Budapest, COTA and Mexico City, I’ve felt more comfortable and better integrated with the engineering team.
"My goal for Friday morning in Brazil is the same: execute the run plan cleanly, give Checo and the engineers the best possible setup data to start their weekend, and keep building on my progress in the car. I’m grateful to the team for giving me this opportunity."
Marcin Budkowski, Cadillac's team principal, added: "I’m also pleased to see Colton return to the MAC-26 for another FP1 outing, stepping in for Checo. His growth in the car across his sessions has been impressive, and his feedback remains invaluable to our 2027 development program. The goal for the final leg of this triple-header is to maintain strong operational discipline, react quickly to the changing conditions, and carry momentum into Sunday."
