Red Bull Racing and Honda are set to part ways at the end of the season. In a social media post, the four-time world champion had a special message for the Japanese power unit manufacturer, reflecting also on his first victory with the brand in 2019.. Verstappen thanks Honda for years of cooperation
"I think for everyone involved at the time, it was a very emotional win," Verstappen begins in a video on Honda Racing's Instagram account, reflecting on the first victory he achieved with a car powered by the Japanese brand.
"That's why also when I walked up to the podium, I pointed to the badge, because I think all the Honda employees, they definitely deserve that for all their hard work over the years. So it was definitely a very proud moment," he added about his victory at the 2019 Austrian GP.
Next year, Red Bull Racing will create their own power unit in collaboration with Ford, while Honda will supply power units for Aston Martin.
Verstappen continued: "For me, it's been very special to be working with Honda and winning all those championships together. I'm incredibly grateful for all the effort that has gone into in to being so successful. And of course also they will be dearly missed in the future, because I always got along very well," the four-time F1 champion continued.
"The professionalism as well, and the dedication of every team member has been amazing, I'm just incredibly proud of working with everyone that has been part of the big team over all those years,"
Afterwards, the driver concluded with a special message for the team: "Well, hope you guys don't stop supporting us after this year, because for me, Honda, of course, means a lot to me and it will always be with me for the rest of my life."
Verstappen hopes for new collaboration with Honda in the future
Verstappen then explained, with Honda having interest in not only F1, they could one day collaborate once again. "Of course, I also know that Honda is involved in a lot more than just Formula 1. So in a way, of course, I hope that even in the future, things can happen. Just hope that you guys keep supporting me and the team, and who knows what will happen in the future," the Dutchman concluded.
