MotoGP Catalan Sprint Race Results: Alex Marquez holds off Acosta, Aprilia drop points

The Catalunya sprint race was incredibly tense and competitive as Pedro Acosta and Alex Marquez duelled for the victory. In the end, it was Marquez who came out victorious while Fabio Di Giannantonio rounded out the podium.

It was a rough race for Aprilia as Jorge Martin suffered his fourth crash of the weekend and failed to score any points, meanwhile championship leader Marco Bezzecchi could only manage a P9 finish.

Pole-sitter Pedro Acosta put up a valiant effort in his attempts to hold up the Gresini Ducati of Alex Marquez, but was eventually passed for the victory and had to settle for second place. It was a solid showing for the VR46 team too with Fabio Di Giannantonio finishing P3 and Franco Morbidelli in P7 after his front-row start.

Ducati will be pleased with their improved performance in Barcelona. Francesco Bagnaia carved his way through the field from P13 to finish P6. Ai Ogura similarly came from P18 to a very impressive P10.

Johann Zarco was once again the highest-running Honda with a very impressive P5, while Joan Mir suffered his customary crash on the opening lap in a very unlucky incident with KTM's Brad Binder.

Despite their strong qualifying performance, Yamaha dropped down the order with Quartaro in P13 and the other four Yamaha riders making up the very rear of the field.
