Max Verstappen has again mocked the F1 2026 regulations by suggesting he is using Mario Kart on the Nintendo Switch for racing preparation as opposed to simulator work. Ever since pre-season started, Verstappen has been an outspoken critic of the new rules, calling them 'anti-racing' and 'Formula E on steroids,' and at Melbourne, where he finished P6, his mood hardly improved.
The four time world champion appeared completely fed up already with F1 2026, saying it was "going to be a long year," and even flirted with an exit from the sport.

Speaking to the media, including GPblog, Verstappen was asked whether drivers who work more on simulators will be better at managing the 2026 cars' energy levels, on which he took the opportunity to throw more digs at the new regulations.
Verstappen said: "I found a cheaper solution. I swapped the simulator for my Nintendo Switch and, yeah, practicing a bit of Mario Kart, actually.
"Yeah, finding the mushrooms is going quite well. The blue shell is a bit more difficult, but I'm working on it. The rocket? Still not there.
On a more serious note, Verstappen was asked whether his lack of enjoyment was to do with the speed of the 2026 cars in the context that he will be taking part in the Nurburgring 24 hours.
"Not really, because, I mean, then the pleasure would be still very high here, right? Because it's the highest speed.
"It's just a way of working with people It's a bit of a different environment as well that you're in in the paddock. I would say Probably a little bit more old-school, less political, which probably I enjoy a bit more. Yeah, I can probably be a bit more myself.
"That's what I what I enjoy, plus of course, these races like all the big endurance ones I want to do, it's something that when I was a kid as well, my dad was doing.
"I think I don't need to be only a Formula One driver, I can also do other things, especially I've done this already for a while and I've achieved everything that I wanted to achieve, so that's why I want to explore also other things and I don't want to do that when I'm 40 years old, so and now I think it's the perfect age to do it."
