Max Verstappen is currently not enjoying the Formula 1 cars. The Dutchman explains why he currently finds the GT3 class much more fun than the pinnacle of motorsport.
"If it were up to me, we would have had completely different cars."

Speaking to GPblog, Verstappen indicated that GT3 cars are currently much more fun to race than Formula 1 machines. “That’s one hundred percent the case at the moment,” he said.

Verstappen would have preferred different F1 rules

When asked a follow-up question, he explained why he feels that way right now. “I didn’t choose these rules either. If it were up to me, we would have had completely different cars.”

According to Verstappen, Formula 1 is quite political. That’s also because there are many discussions with the FIA this season about the new regulations, with the aim of possibly implementing improvements in the future.
An initial change to the engine regulations even seems to be on the way soon. The organisations are therefore taking the criticism from drivers and teams seriously.
“That’s why I sometimes find GT3 races more fun as well. It’s just more normal and less political in that area. Generally, it’s more about pure racing there. The cars might be slower, but that doesn’t matter much. That’s fine,” said Verstappen.
“It’s just different. Now I’m getting an opportunity that I can take, and I like that in a season where you don’t get a lot of enjoyment out of it,” he concluded.
The opportunity the Dutchman will seize in 2026 is competing in the 24-hour race at the Nürburgring which he announced after the race in Australia.
