Kimi Antonelli won the United States Grand Prix but still has work to do to become the youngest F1 champion of all time.
Antonelli needed his teammate George Russell to finish ninth or lower and Lewis Hamilton fifth or lower. Hamilton and Russell both did just about enough to keep their hopes mathematically alive, with the Ferrari driver finishing fourth and the Mercedes star in eighth after serving a five-second penalty.
He now leads the championship on 365 points and is 123 points ahead of Russell with only 125 remaining. It means Antonelli needs just two points in Mexico to win the championship, with no driver able to match his nine victories this season.
Hamilton is just one point behind Russell in third in the championship but saw his gap to Verstappen and Leclerc behind him close up slightly. Verstappen is now just six points behind Hamilton in fourth, with Leclerc a further three points behind.
Leclerc, following consecutive second place finishes, is now just nine points behind Russell in a four-driver battle for second in the championship. There is no change behind them, with Norris, Piastri, Hadjar, Lawson and Gasly rounding out the top 10 in the championship, after all finishing inside the points positions in Austin.
