Kimi Antonelli made a strong start to the United States Grand Prix, maintaining his lead into Turn 1 after getting away cleanly from pole position. The Mercedes driver held off his rivals through the opening corner to remain at the front of the field.
Behind him, Max Verstappen lost second place to Charles Leclerc, who made an impressive getaway in his Ferrari. The Dutchman also came under pressure from Lewis Hamilton but managed to keep the seven-time world champion behind him, retaining third position in the opening exchanges.
However, Verstappen wasted little time fighting back. Towards the end of the opening lap, the Red Bull driver produced a superb move around the outside of Leclerc to reclaim second place, immediately setting his sights on Antonelli at the front of the field.
