Verstappen’s Red Bull worked on again before race start in Austin

Red Bull Racing replaced two components on Max Verstappen’s car ahead of the United States Grand Prix. These were the rear crankshaft seal and a component by the left-rear brake. Aston Martin, Audi and Cadillac also carried out work under parc fermé conditions, all with FIA approval.
Verstappen’s rear crankshaft seal was replaced. Red Bull also changed a component in the brake cooling system around the left-rear caliper.
The reason for these replacements has not been disclosed, so it is unclear whether they were due to damage, wear or a precautionary measure. The work was carried out during the Parc Fermé period, when teams are not free to make changes to their cars. The teams involved requested and received written approval in advance for these replacements.

Red Bull works on Verstappen’s brakes in Austin

The replacement at the left-rear brake comes during a weekend in which Red Bull is also experimenting with modified Brembo brake discs for Verstappen. That test focuses on the front brakes. The discs have a revised surface pattern and are intended to give the Dutchman a more consistent braking response, both during an individual braking manoeuvre and over a longer stint.

However, no direct connection to the replacement for the race has been established. The work under parc fermé conditions involved a component at the left-rear brake caliper, while the Brembo experiment concerns the front brake discs. There is therefore no confirmation that Red Bull had to replace or revert anything because of the test.

Multiple replacements on Alonso’s Aston Martin

The list of work carried out on Fernando Alonso’s car is longer. Aston Martin replaced a mounting or support component at the front of the chassis, as well as parts of the upper rear suspension on both sides. The corresponding safety cables and fasteners were also changed. In addition, the hydraulic quick-connects between the rear wing and the gearbox were replaced, along with a wiring harness by the rear impact structure.
Audi worked on both cars. On Nico Hulkenberg’s car, the middle section of the floor was replaced with a previously used one. On Gabriel Bortoleto’s car, the work involved a hydraulic interface unit at the left-rear brake caliper and its associated wiring. Finally, Cadillac replaced a guide vane on the right-hand side of the diffuser on Valtteri Bottas’s car. Approval had also been granted in advance for that change.
