The FIA have revealed the drivers set to take new power unit elements at this weekend's Barcelona GP, with Red Bull's Max Verstappen among those getting a new engine. The Dutchman encountered power unit problems at the Monaco GP, failing to get off the line and suffering a Lap 1 DNF. Verstappen will take a new Internal Combustion Engine (ICE), turbocharger, and a new exhaust set, alongside both Audi drivers Gabriel Bortoleto and Nico Hulkenberg. The trio will also take a new power unit ancillary component (PU-ANC) alongside Haas' Ollie Bearman.
Elsewhere on the grid, Haas' Esteban Ocon will receive a new energy store unit, as will fellow Amercian team Cadillac, with the part applied to both Valtteri Bottas and Sergio Perez's cars. As well as the new ES, Perez will also see a new control electronics unit (PU-CE) fitted this weekend.
All of the new elements applied this weekend have been cleared as having been within the number of changes allowed by the FIA throughout the 2026 season.
McLaren and Red Bull intend to appeal stewards' decision on Alpine
Meanwhile, McLaren has confirmed to
GPblog its intention to appeal to the International Court of Appeal against the stewards' decision to overturn Pierre Gasly’s time penalty in Monaco. This website also understands Red Bull
also intend to appeal. As a result, the French Alpine driver was reinstated to third place. Consequently, Oscar Piastri lost a position and the McLaren driver is now classified fifth instead of fourth in the results.
Isack Hadjar has seen his podium spot slip away, with the
Red Bull Racing driver originally third in Monte Carlo. Both teams are anything but happy with the stewards' decision and intend to appeal. If they are successful, the results could therefore be turned upside down again.
Alpine's managing director Steve Nielsen
reacted to the news, telling
GPblog and others:
"Honestly, absolutely… if I could trade, I'd have that podium moment over the points. That's the bit we can't forget about. It's a shame for Pierre and it's a shame for the team, but we've got as much as we can. We've got the position and the points, which is nice, but if I could choose, I'd have the podium, that emotion, which is what we can't live."
