Max Verstappen completed a training session and a theoretical exam on Friday upon his arrival at the Nordschleife, in an attempt to get the DMSB Permit Nordschleife, which is required to take part in the Nürburgring Endurance Series, (NLS).
A very popular race in this championship, which Verstappen has had his eye set on for a while, but hasn't been able to run, the 24 hours of Nurburgring, has just opened up for the Dutchman after he received the desired permit, following his participation in the qualifying and the actual 4-hour long race.
Verstappen needed to complete 14 laps total, divided into two stints of seven each, at the Nordschleife to attain the special permit.
Although he failed to complete the required seven laps in the #89 car resulting to technical issues, due to an exception in the guidelines, he was allowed to complete another round of seven tours in the #980 car to check off all the requirements necessary to attain the special permit.
It is still to be approve officially, however, this is merely a formality according to the outlined rules.
Verstappen wants to race outside of Formula One
That Verstappen loves racing can't be brought into question by anyone. The Dutchman is always behind the wheel of a car, be that a real one, or a simulated version of one.
This is also not his first time at the Nordschleife, having completed a test session under the alias of 'Franz Hermann,' during which the Dutchman astonished everyone with his sheer speed.
Having tested for the Emil Frey Racing team, the same outfit he tested for at the Nurburgring, in a bid to aid manager Raymond Vermeulen's son, Thierry Vermeulen, find his feet in a Ferrari GT3 car, he also tested a GT3 Aston Martin Vantage at Spa-Francorchamps.
The Dutchman's
F1 colleague Fernando Alonso, has always stated that his experienced outside of F1 has only made him more complete. A decision, however, he and now Verstappen, have made simply out of the love they have for racing and for competing at the highest level of their abilities.
