“I’m happy it all went smooth, and I got my DMSB Permit Nordschleife''
- Max Verstappen“I’m happy it all went smooth, and I got my DMSB Permit Nordschleife,'' the Dutchman said via his website Verstappen.com
''I really enjoyed myself, but that’s always the case around here. It was good to drive stints in the race with traffic, both with faster and slower cars.''
''There was also a ‘code 60’ race neutralisation, double waved yellows and a standard yellow flag. I drove in the wet, the dry and in mixed conditions.''
''I’ve gained experience in where the grip is and isn’t and completed a start procedure. It was really good to gain more experience on this circuit.”
Verstappen can now compete in GT3 class
The four-time world champion arrived at the Nordschleife weekend with the primary goal of securing the A permit, which would allow him to take part in GT3 class with the Ferrari 296 of the Emily Frey Racing team.
Today, the Dutchman competed in a Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 CS, also sporting the Verstappen.com livery.
Verstappen impressed from qualifying onwards,
setting by far the fastest time in his CUP 3 (G) category and even outpacing several ProAM cars that were not limited by the 130-horsepower restriction of his own car.
He finished qualifying in sixth in his category and 27th overall, despite having a restricted engine and carrying extra weight compared to the other cars.
He then finished the four-hour race alongside Chris Lulham in seventh place. In the afternoon, rumors began circulating questioning whether he would obtain the license, as he had been unable to complete the 14 laps required by regulations in two different cars due to technical issues with car #89.
The Dutchman therefore completed the necessary mileage behind the wheel of car #980 before handing over to Lulham for the final stint of the race.
Verstappen will therefore have the opportunity to compete in the GT3 class with Emily Frey Racing in two weeks, but, most importantly, to take part in next year’s 24 Hours of Nürburgring, a goal he has long declared.
