Carlos Sainz has left McLaren for Ferrari after two years racing for the Woking team. Although driving for Ferrari is a dream for the Spaniard, he has a hard time leaving McLaren.

Enjoy racing

When Sainz is asked what he will miss most about McLaren, he does not hesitate. "I leave behind a lot of good friends, people with whom I've enjoyed racing more than ever," says Sainz at Motorsport-Total.com. He also praises the support he received from the team management. "The effect that this has on a driver should not be underestimated.”

Sense of security

At McLaren, Sainz was awarded a two-year contract for the first time. "A certainty I never had before. Because of this, it didn't feel like one qualification would affect my entire career. Even when I had accidents in two consecutive races, I never really felt the pressure piling up. I have never felt the need to get a result."

Best version of himself

Sainz leaves McLaren with many good memories. "From the two stages to beautiful overtaking manoeuvres and good qualifications, but also many moments you don't see in front of the cameras. Lots of laughter, lots of good dinners and funny events with Lando [Norris].
"My time at McLaren made me the best version of myself," Sainz continues. "To find in myself better performance and a little more satisfaction in Formula 1. It was certainly a great place for me to find that next step that made me a better driver. I am really grateful for that. Now I feel ready for the next challenge (at Ferrari), but these two years will always be very special for me."
