Kimi Antonelli beat Max Verstappen to pole position for the United States Grand Prix, on a weekend where he can become Formula 1's youngest ever drivers' champion.
The championship leader did not look in contention until Q3, but ultimately he beat Verstappen to pole by 0.179 seconds. Ferrari, who dominated the free practice sessions, fell off pace in the final part of qualifying and their drivers will only line up fourth and fifth.
Throughout the session it looked like the two Ferraris would battle it out with Max Verstappen on pole. However, the first runs in Q3 saw Antonelli go fastest from Verstappen, Hadjar and Leclerc.
The top four remained in the same order after their second runs, with Lewis Hamilton, George Russell, Oscar Piastri, Lando Norris, Arvid Lindblad and Liam Lawson rounding out the top 10.
Q2 saw Pierre Gasly, Nico Hulkenberg, Gabriel Bortleto, Franco Colapinto, Fernando Alonso and Oliver Bearman exit the session. Meanwhile, Q1 saw Esteban Ocon, Lance Stroll, Carlos Sainz, Alex Albon, Sergio Perez and Valtteri Bottas eliminated.

Antonelli currently has a 102-point lead over Russell with six rounds remaining this season, assuming F1 fulfils its end-of-season schedule with Qatar and Abu Dhabi. To win the title, Antonelli must win Sunday's race with Russell ninth or lower and Hamilton fifth or lower.
