George Russell has responded to Max Verstappen's controversial comments after the two of them came together at the Spanish Grand Prix. In the final few laps at Barcelona, Verstappen was told to the the Mercedes driver through after rejoining the track, but while doing that, he served into the Brit, resulting in a ten-second time penalty and three penalty points being added to his license.
As a result of those penalty points being added, the Red Bull Racing driver now sits on 11, just one away from a potential race ban that could be served at the Austrian Grand Prix if he earns one at this weekend's
Canadian Grand Prix.
It was yet another flashpoint in the rivalry between Max Verstappen and George Russell after their collision at the Spanish Grand Prix.
Russell 'giggled' at Verstappen's comments in Barcelona
Following the Spanish Grand Prix, Russell told the media, including GPblog, that he believed Verstappen set a bad example by driving into him.
The Dutchman was confronted with these statements shortly thereafter, to which he said:
"Okay, next time I'll bring some tissues."During the media day in Montreal for this weekend's Grand Prix around the
Circuit Gilles Villeneuve, the Brit responded to his rival's sharp comment.
"That was quite funny to be fair, and I did have a giggle about that," Russell laughed while speaking to Sky Sports.
Russell 'forgot' incident because of baby Lily
But even before teams and drivers descended on the paddock in Canada after a week's break from racing, Russell admits that he had already run into Verstappen before
"We bumped into each other at the airport on Sunday morning when I was going to Roland Garros," the Brit explained.
"To be honest, I totally forgot about Barcelona because he was there with his newborn [baby], and we were at the security machine. He just had a quick chat, and then he was busy folding the pram down to put it through the machine."
