After Jolyon Palmer questioned Valtteri Bottas’ ability in wheel to wheel racing, Red Bull’s Daniel Ricciardo has had his say on that overtaking chance on the final lap of Sunday’s race.
Valtteri Bottas was closing in fast on leader Sebastian Vettel as the Ferrari’s tyres lost grip in the latter stages of the race in Bahrain and had a chance to dive down the inside into turn one on the final lap to take the win.
However, the Finn did not go for the move, and finished only second in a race that was his for the taking after Mercedes' clever strategy change.
Ricciardo spoke about the incident in China, telling reporters: “I definitely would have sent it, one hundred percent.”
Ricciardo was adamant that Bottas should’ve gone for the move: “There’s a gap, you’re finishing second anyway, if you overshoot you’re finishing second. Last lap, for the win, you have to go for it. You have to.
“I don’t want to tell him all my tips, but I wouldn’t be content. If it’s for a win, you just can’t settle. It’s not in me, at least.”
