Lance Stroll is not a happy young man right now. Miles away from the points, bottom of the Constructors’ Championship, not a glimmer of Q3. Williams are not in great shape on track and the Canadian is not happy.
Stroll had a fairly impressive debut season all things considered, scoring only three less points than the vastly experienced and now retired Felipe Massa and scoring his maiden podium in the eventful Azerbaijan Grand Prix, finishing third after former Williams driver Valtteri Bottas pipped him to second place on the final straight.
Points seem a long way away for Stroll and Williams now, never mind podiums, and he does not sound happy with his car.
Speaking to the official F1 website, Stroll said: “In Bahrain I was shocked at how much of a backwards step it was.
“I was four tenths slower than I was last year (in qualifying). We were losing time on the straights, we haven’t improved.
“We improved a bit in the corners but not even close to the extent we were hoping for.”
Stroll also admits that the handling also isn’t up to scratch on this year’s car, so he and team-mate Sergey Sirotkin have their work cut out if they are looking for points in Shanghai.
