Renault have an engine upgrade ready to be implemented for the Canadian Grand Prix, but boss Abiteboul suggests it’s not best for teams to use it in Montreal.
Both Red Bull drivers are on the brink of receiving penalties as a result of already using the second set of elements.
“We’ve a new spec engine,” Renault boss told motorsport.com.
“We have yet to confirm the introduction, because the mileage is not the same across all cars so, we will see where and when exactly we will introduce that new spec.
“I think we have six engines available, subject to the last event on procurement in the supply chain. That’s the plan, but not sure it’s actually best to introduce it in all six cars, in particular, Red Bull.
“We need to look into that. We always work in partnership with teams, trying to do the best for the overall season result.”
Daniel Ricciardo’s car developed an MGU-K issue during his race win in Monaco. He will receive a 10-place penalty when he uses a third.
Stoffel Vandoorne, a McLaren driver who also uses a Renault engine will get a penalty because he has used two control electronics.
