Aston Martin sense chances: 'We could win everywhere'

Aston Martin might have brought a range of upgrades to Imola, but instead it was a rather disappointing weekend for the team who only managed to secure two points. Nevertheless, team boss Mike Krack remains optimistic and believes if the team does their homework, they could have a successful weekend in Monaco.

The start of last season was rather successful for Aston Martin, who as Krack pointed out, achieved "eight podiums in the first nine of ten races", hence "the expectation bar is super high". Speaking in the paddock to GPBlog, and other media, he said: "We had teams that did not do their homework last year while we did, and this put us in a position where maybe from where we were as a team growth or from the project side, we were maybe not ready for it."

"Now you are measured against this, and we measure ourselves as well against this," Krack added.

Last year, Fernando Alonso had the potential to win the Monaco Grand Prix, but was ultimately beaten by Red Bull's Max Verstappen. When asked whether the team has the same potential this year, Krack explained: "Monaco is very special. A lot can happen. It is a little bit with the new rules about the traffic and how you have to leave the pit lane and all that. It will be very challenging. I think we will hear a lot of people complaining about traffic or not the right window. I am not saying it is a lottery, but a lot can go right, but also a lot can go wrong."

With the competition being much closer this year, and the likes of McLaren seeing great success from their upgrades, the Aston Martin boss is under pressure to deliver. "Monaco last year was last year. Now Monaco this year is this year. So we will go there and see. We will do our homework, we have a lot to work on, we have a lot to understand and we will see how it results out," said Krack.
