McLaren’s 2026 challenger has yet to be revealed, but it has already been auctioned off. As McLaren's CEO Zak Brown already announced in August, the team's 2026 car was auctioned off in collaboration with RM Sotheby's before the season began as part of The Triple Crown series.
The team won the past two
constructors' championships, but a new challenge awaits them in 2026 as the regulation change could end up completely reshaping the
F1 grid.
The 2026 McLaren was sold for a stunning $11,480,000 (£8,494,000). The MCL40A will also come with a Mercedes-AMG power unit as well. It is up to the person with the winning bid whether they would prefer to have a 'Lando Norris car' or an 'Oscar Piastri car'.
However, delivery will take time, as the car is not scheduled to arrive until 2028. In the meantime, they will receive a 2025 show car.
Moreover, not only the car is included in the winning bid. Together with the MCL40A, the sale includes an invitation to the McLaren Technology Centre, hospitality tickets for two
Formula 1 Grands Prix, and access to the 24 Hours of Le Mans and the Indy 500 as well.

McLaren's '27 Hypercar and '26 IndyCar also sold
McLaren is set to enter the hypercar class of the World Endurance Championship in the 2027 season. That car was sold for $7,598,750 (£5,622,000).
Although it may be driven with factory support in accordance with all parties, the McLaren
IndyCar entry ended up being the cheapest purchase. The team's 2026 challenger was sold for $848,750 (£628,000).
